Status: Undrafted out of junior, Jeff Odgers went on to play 821 NHL games from 1991-2003 as a right wing for the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche and Atlanta Thrashers. He accumulated 75 goals and 2,364 PIM.
Ht: 6-foot Wt: 200 pounds
DOB: May 31, 1969 In: Spy Hill, Sask.
Hockey Inspiration: "Definitely my first childhood hero would have to be Bobby Orr."
Nicknames: "Pretty much just one - Odgie. Pretty much stuck with me all the way."
Hobbies/Leisure Activities: "Hunting, hunting and hunting - in that order. Camping, fishing and traveling."
First Job: "Working for my dad (Fred) in the farms."
First Car: "1974 blue Dodge Cornet."
First Hockey Memory: "First game. I had to decide between Saturday morning cartoons and going to the game. Tarzan was my favorite cartoon. And I was four years old and I was playing eight-and-under, just practicing with the team. The coach phoned - they were short of players. And mom and dad left it up to me, said either you can watch Tarzan or go into town and play hockey for the mite team. And I chose to go play hockey."
Favorite Movies: "Braveheart, Slap Shot and Road House."
Musical Tastes: "Country: Hank Williams Jr., Alan Jackson, Merle Haggard."
Favorite Meal: "Steak and potatoes."
Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: "Vanilla."
Pre-Game Feeling: "Nervous, butterflies. Lots of times thinking about the opposition, going through their teams and guys I might have to face that night. And just worry about doing the simple things."
Greatest Sports Moment: "Probably beating out Detroit in seven games when I was with San Jose ('94). We were the eighth seed, they were the first seed. That would be my biggest team-wise. Personally, would be probably my first game ('91). Played in Long Island, second shift got in a fight. Fought Mick Vukota. Calmed down after that."
Most Painful Moment: "Breaking my leg in 2002. I was in a fight with Bryan Marchment and I went over backwards and he came on top of me. I tore all the ligaments in my ankle and fractured my fibula."
Funny Hockey Memory: "One time in junior we ran out of gas on the way home. It was a nine-hour bus ride each way. The bus driver couldn't figure it out because he said he had enough fuel for 16 hours. We were coming from Prince Albert, going to Brandon. In the middle of the night we got stranded right off the Trans-Canada Highway. (How cold was it?) Well, it was the middle of winter in Brandon. So it was probably the minimum of minus 25."
Closest NHL Friends: "Chris Tamer, Shean Donovan, Adam Deadmarsh."
Funniest Players Encountered: "Probably Jamie Baker - practical joker. Always saying stuff to make you laugh."
Toughest Competitors: "Probably the scariest guy I ever played with was Link Gaetz when I first started out. He scared his own teammates. When he snapped, I don't think he even knew what he was going do."
Personality Qualities Most Admired: "Just hard-working, honest people."
