Ht: 6-foot-1 Wt: 191 pounds
DOB: May 4, 1973 In: Ottawa
Hockey Inspirations: "Dale Hunter. Came to work hard every game. Showed leadership. Chris Nilan."
First Hockey Memory: "Winning a $1,500 scholarship as a top scorer in a tournament as a peewee (age 12). In my first junior camp, I was selected in the 20th round by my junior team and I was really small (5-foot-10, 145 pounds) and I ended up fighting 13 times in two days. Fortunately, I was on an expansion team (Beauport Harfangs of Quebec League) and the coach took me. I think because I fought a lot and he thought he could do something with me. Fought Enrico Ciccone - I got killed. He probably weighed 225 at the time. He destroyed me. I remember I had no points at Christmas. Finished up with nine goals and five assists, and 262 penalty minutes. And the second year I finished with 29 goals. And the third - 45 goals (between Beauport, Verdun, Victoriaville and Buffalo). So...went pretty well."
First Job: "Construction for four years, for my uncle Ralph (age 13). Then I worked as a cook at McDonalds for six months."
Nicknames: “Barns, Killer, Bam Bam.”
Favorite Movie: "Rocky."
Favorite TV Show: "Don't watch TV."
Musical Tastes: "Country; alternative; Michael Jackson."
Childhood Dream: "Play in the NHL. My only goal since I was a little kid."
First Car: "'92 Toyota Four-Runner (green). My first contract."
Favorite Meal: "Spaghetti with meat sauce."
Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: "Vanilla."
Greatest Sports Moment: "First time I stepped on NHL ice. Against Montreal (1992-93), my childhood favorite team. In Buffalo. And signing my first contract was pretty big."
Most Painful Moment: "Being knocked out at center ice in junior in a fight. Waking up in a dressing room, not knowing where you are...was very scary. (Against who?) Nathan Morin, a little 5-foot-9 guy. (Did you have a rematch?) Yep, two weeks later. And I did pretty well."
Worst Injury: "Shoulder operation. From two fights in a game. Dislocation, separation, then a missed body check."
Closest NHL Friends: "Rob Ray; Brad May."
Funniest Players Encountered: "Rob Ray."
Toughest Competitors: "Cam Neely; Eric Lindros; Scott Stevens; Dominik Hasek."
Funny Hockey Memory: "One happened in New Jersey when I was 19. I had my pants hung up from the top of Meadowlands Arena by Randy Moller, while I was on the ice. So I was on the ice, looking up in the rafters and there were my pants. He must've had someone go up to the top of the building in the service elevator. I had to pay a guy 50 bucks to go up and get them."
Pre-Game Feeling: "Nothing. I didn't think about the game at all. It was so much fun to come down to the rink. We joked around in the room and even on the way out to the ice. When I would start thinking about the big games before, I played poorly. When I'd fool around and not think about the game, I would play a better game."
Most Memorable Game: "Five overtimes, Game 4 of the 2000 conference semifinals against the Flyers (with Pittsburgh)."
Personality Qualities Most Admired: "Honesty. Trust-worthiness. Where you know what you're getting from a person."
