Former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter was in "extremely critical" condition on life support last night after nearly strangling herself while playing with an electrical cord at her mom's Phoenix home, cops said.
Exodus Tyson's limp body was found by her 7-year-old brother in the family's exercise room after their mother realized she hadn't seen the girl in a while and asked him to look for her, police said.
The mom, whose name was withheld by cops, "was cleaning the house and said, 'Go get your sister,' and [the boy] came running back and said his sister was in distress, and then the mom went and found her," Phoenix Police Sgt. Andy Hill said.
"It's just so tragic . . . [Exodus] was playing in the room, apparently by herself," when she got tangled in the cord, which is attached to a treadmill, Hill said.
"It was like a power cable in a loop shape. She was able to work it down to the point where she ended up catching her neck on it.
"Either she slipped or put her head in the loop, but it acted like a noose shape, and she was obviously unable to get herself off of it.
"We don't know how long exactly" she was hanging," Hill said. "It could have been just a couple of minutes."
The officer called the child's condition "extremely critical," adding, "This is a possible death investigation."
Tyson, 42, who had been in Las Vegas, immediately flew to Phoenix to see his daughter, who was on a respirator at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Also at Exodus' side was her mother, who had frantically called 911 when she found the girl unconscious and began CPR on her before medics arrived.
The brother had apparently been watching TV at the time of the accident, authorities said.
A p.r. firm that represents the boxer released a statement saying, "The Tyson family would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks for all your prayers and support."
James Toback, director of the new documentary "Tyson" about the troubled ex-boxing great, said he has touching footage that shows how much both parents adore Exodus.
"Oh, my God. Oh, my God," Toback said when told of the tragedy. "This is horrendous . . . There is no more careful a mother."
Dinka Radic, a neighbor, said she last saw Mike Tyson at the home about a month ago for the brother's birthday party.
She said Exodus and her brother could always be seen playing together.
"She's just a cute girl," Radic, 74, said. "She always asks me for chocolate. When I give it to her, she kisses me."
